The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Vung Tau city solemnly held its 6th congress on August 26.
Attending the congress included Most Venerable Thích Quảng Hiển, Member of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Chairman of the Executive Committee of the VBS’s Chapter in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province; representatives from the district-level Buddhist boards in the province; and 265 delegates representing monks, nuns and Buddhists in the city.
The event saw the participation of representatives of the Tay Ninh Caodai Church, Vietnam Pure-land Buddhist Association, Minh Su and Minh Ly faiths, and local authorities in the locality.
As reported at the congress, in the past five years, the VBS’s chapter in Vung Tau city recorded good results in both Buddhist and social activities. For the past five years, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the city have contributed over VND 6.8 billion for running the charity kitchen in Le Loi Hospital, presented VND 200 million to the foundation for the poor in the locality and VND 400 million to victims of natural calamities in the Vietnam Central, built five charitable houses for the poor in the city, etc.
The congress selected 29 members to the new executive board for 2016-2021 tenure with Venerable Thích Phước Huệ chosen as head of the board.
New Buddhist Executive Board in Vung Tau makes its debut
Currently, Vung Tau city is home to nearly 40,000 Buddhist followers and 78 Buddhist worshipping places.
