Boat Race in Bac Lieu 2019 contributes to promote Khmer cultural values

The provincial government of the Southern province of Bac Lieu held an open Ghe ngo (Khmer boat) racing 2019 on March 31 in the province’s Hong Dan district.

The race drew the participation of 600 Khmer of 13 racing teams, including 3 female teams from Kien Giang, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu. The troupes divided into competing groups contested in a race of 1000 meters in two rounds for deciding best and second best teams.

As reported, the Khmer boat race was part of the Chol Chnam Thmay festival of Khmer people in Bac Lieu 2019 and the sport event attracted 4,000 spectators.

According to Vice Chairman of Bac Lieu provincial People’s Committee, Vương Phương Nam, the boat racing is a traditional sport event of Khmer people in Vietnam South, and the annual event contributed to promote exchanges amongst people as well as preserve fine Khmer cultural traditions.
