The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held a program with the theme “Proud of Nation and Vietnam mothers” on August 17 at Au Co Theater ahead of the Buddhist Parents Day 2018 (B.E. 2562).
The event saw the participation of Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the VBS Thích Thanh Dũng, Most Venerable Vice President of VBS’s Executive Council Thích Gia Quang, Buddhist dignitaries of the VBS and large numbers of monks, nuns and followers.
Distinguished guests at the event included former head of the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization Hà Thị Khiết, General Director of the Voice of Vietnam Nguyễn Thế Kỷ, Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng, representatives from local authorities, Vietnam heroic mothers, relatives of war invalids, martyrs and people who contributed meritorious services to the revolution.
The Buddhist Parents Day (Vu Lan festival) held annually on the 15th day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is not only the Buddhist festival but also cultural festival associated with the Vietnamese tradition, reminding us of our roots and expressing their gratefulness and appreciation to their parents and ancestors.

The program aimed to pay tribute to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, martyrs, war invalids and those rendered meritorious services to the country.
On this occasion, the organizing board honored typical examples of filial piety and presented gifts to policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged pupils with excellent academic results.
