An Islamic dignitary of Cham ethnic group honored for community development

For years, Deputy Head of Masjid Al Mubarak mosque (located in An Giang province’s Tan Chau district) cum Head of the Representative Committee of Islam community in An Giang Go Sa Ly has motivated the Cham Islamic community to promote fine traditions for unity and development in the locality.

Over the past years, Mr. Go Sa Ly as a delegate of Chau Phong commune People's Council proactively encouraged the Cham community to join in social movements launched by local authorities.

Since taking over the post of Director of the Representative Committee of Islam community in An Giang, Mr. Go Sa Ly has played an important role in organizing classes for teaching Qur’an and Cham language for Cham people in the locality, contributing to preserve and promote Cham language.

In 2017, under the leadership of Mr. Go Sa Ly and with support from the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and Sadakatasi Foundation from Turkey, the provincial Representative Committee of Islam community constructed a mosque located in La Ma village, An Phu’s district Vinh Tuong commune, organized eight classes for teaching Qur’an and Cham language, and opened a canteen located in Bung Lon village, An Phu district’s Nhon Hoi commune, with the total cost of VND 17 billion. In addition, Mr. Go Sa Ly also mobilized charity organizations from Malaysia to build charity houses for poor families in localities and provide supports to improve their family economy.

With practical contributions to Cham community, Mr. Go Sa Ly received certificates of merit by local authorities and was honored at a meeting honoring typical prestigious persons, intellectuals and entrepreneurs of ethnic minorities held in Hanoi on December, 2017 .
