VBS in Tuyen Quang convenes 3rd congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Tuyen Quang province successfully held on May 27 its 3rd congress (2022-2027).

GCRA Vice Chairwoman Trần Thị Minh Nga presents certificates of recommendation to Buddhist individuals for their outstanding contributions to social charities in 2017-2022 term

The event taking place in the provincial Convention Center saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang, Vice President of the VBS executive council cum Chairman of the VBS executive committee in Tuyen Quang; Most Venerable Thích Quảng Tùng and Most Venerable Thích Quảng Hà, Vice Presidents of the VBS executive council, representatives from provincial-level VBS chapters in Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho and Nam Dinh.

Guests at the event included Former Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Nguyễn Sáng Vang, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Phạm Thị Minh Xuân, and Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Trần Thị Minh Nga.

The one-day congress elected a new 31-member executive committee in the province for 2022-2027 term, with Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang re-selected as Head of the executive committee.

During the event, one Buddhist group and nine individuals were awarded with certificates of merit by the central VBS; five Buddhist individuals were presented by certificates of recommendation by the GCRA for their practical contributions to social charities in 2017-2022 term; and four Buddhist individuals received certificates of recommendation of the provincial People’s Committee for their outstanding performances in Buddhist affairs and social charities in the locality over the past five years.

As reported at the event, Tuyen Quang province currently has 27 monks and nuns, and over 9,000 lay Buddhists.
