Religious communities in Nghe An contribute 15.9 billion VND to urban infrastructure development in 2024

Nghe An province located in the North Central region is the largest province in the country, and has over 440,000 religious followers, accounting for more than 13% of the province’s population.

Two major religions in the province is Buddhism and Catholicism, in which Catholicism has over 292 thousand followers under Vinh diocese with 366 parish and sub-parish churches, and Buddhism has over 150 thousand followers with 71 Buddhist pagodas and one Buddhist reciting temples. Religious people in the locality have made practical contributions for socio-economic development over the past years.
As reported at a conference gathering 110 key members of religious organizations in the province held on November 25, religious organizations and lay followers have contributed more than 15.9 billion VND, 14,265 square meters of land, and 15,560 working days for developing rural infrastructures, as well as supported tens of billions VND for housing constructions for disadvantaged people and families in the locality in the year.
Particularly, Tan Ky district in Nghe An province has 1,313 Catholic households, accounting for 4.3% of the district’s population. Catholic locals donated over 14,500 square meters of land and 2,805 square meters of fences to expand rural roads in the locality.
Religious people in the province have proactively promoted models of environmental protection, maintaining security and order in the locality. There currently are 73.9% of worshipping places and 64.3% of Catholic families, and 100% of Buddhist worshipping places and 96.3% of Buddhist families carry out hanging the national flag during country holidays and religious celebrations.

In addition, religious organizations in the province have also participated in the fields of education, health and social welfares by establishing and stably operating medical clinics, preschool education schools, free medicine, social caring centers for orphans and disabled children, scholarship fund for poor students, etc.
