The Central Executive Commitee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church held on December 25 a ceremony in southern An Giang province to mark the 105th birth anniversary of the Hoa Hao Buddhism’s founder – Huỳnh Phú Sổ (the 25th day of the 11th lunar month, 1919) at An Hoa Temple.

Since Hoa Hao Buddhism came into being 85 years ago, followers have always adhered to its motto “For Dharma and Nation”, promoted good cultural and ethical values, and contributed to the nation. Hoa Hoa Buddhism currently has nearly 2 million followers in 17 cities and provinces and, mostly in Mekong Delta region.
Currently, An Giang province has 11 operative religions with 289 affiliated organizations and over 1.7 million religious people, accounting for over 91% of the provincial population. Specifically, Hoa Hao Buddhism in the province has approximately 800,000 followers.

As reported at the event, Hoa Hao Buddhist followers have actively participated in charitable and social activities for building charity houses, repairing and constructing new rural bridges, roads, assisting poor patients, launching rice donation programs, setting up charity kitchens for helping the disadvantaged. During the 2019 – 2024 period, the total amount of charitable and social activities of Hoa Hao Buddhism reached about 2.5 trillion VND, with over 570 billion VND in An Giang province in particular. In response to the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses movement, the Central Executive Committee of Hoa Hao Buddhism has pledged to donate 50 billion VND for local people in An Giang province.
