VBS in Phu Yen convenes 8th congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Phu Yen province successfully held on June 6 its 8th congress (2022-2027) with the participation of over 300 Buddhist delegates and guests.

At the event

The event taking place in Bao Tinh pagoda located in Tuy Hoa City saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp, Standing Vice President of the VBS executive council; Most Venerable Huệ Thông, Deputy General Secretary of the VBS executive council cum Chief of the VBS’s Office in Ho Chi Minh City; Most Venerable Thích Đồng Tiến, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the VBS’s chapter in Phu Yen; Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Cao Thị Hòa An, and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trần Hữu Thế.

The one-day congress elected a new 63-member executive committee in the province for 2022-2027 term, with Most Venerable Thích Đồng Tiến re-selected as Head of the executive committee.

As reported at the event, Phu Yen province currently has 261 Buddhist worshipping places with 403 monks and nuns.

Over the last five years, the VBS chapter in the province has spent about 73 billion VND on social charities in the locality.

During the event, 13 Buddhist groups were awarded with certificates of merit by the central VBS, and six Buddhist groups were presented with certificates of recommendation by the provincial People’s Committee for their outstanding performances in Buddhist affairs and social charities in the locality in the 7th term.
