The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Ninh Binh province successfully held on June 9 its 7th congress (2022-2027).

The event taking place in Bai Dinh pagoda saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Trí Quảng, Acting Patriarch of the VBS; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp and Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice Presidents of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang, Most Venerable Thích Quảng Tùng, Most Venerable Đào Như, Most Venerable Thạch Sok Xane and Most Venerable Thích Quảng Hà, Vice Presidents of the VBS executive council; Most Venerable Yoshimizu Daichi, Former Head of the Japanese Pure-Land Buddhist Association; and Senior Venerable Thích Thọ Lạc, Chairman of the VBS executive committee in Ninh Binh.
Guests at the Buddhist congress included Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phạm Quang Ngọc, and Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Ngô Sách Thực, and Deputy Director of the Buddhist Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Đào Huy Cường.

As reported, Ninh Binh province currently has 357 Buddhist worshipping places including 26 national relic sites and 40 provincial-level relic sites, and 386 monks and nuns.
Over the last five years, the VBS chapter in the province has spent about 50 billion VND on social charities launched in the locality.
The one-day congress elected a new 45-member executive committee in the province for 2022-2027 term with Senior Venerable Thích Minh Quang, Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS executive committee in the 6th term selected as Head of the executive committee for the 7th term.
During the congress, the VBS executive committee in the province, Late Most Venerable Thích Thanh Đàm and Senior Venerable Thích Thọ Lạc were presented with Second-class Labor Medal signed by the President.
One Buddhist group and 20 individuals were awarded with certificates of merit by the central VBS, and seven Buddhist groups and 10 individuals were presented with certificates of recommendation by the provincial People’s Committee for their outstanding performances in Buddhist affairs and social charities in the locality in the 6th term.

On this occasion, the new VBS executive committee in the province presented 120 million VND to the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and 21 bicycles to people living in nine islands of Truong Sa island district.
