Two festivals in Ba Ria Vung Tau named as National Intangible Cultural Heritage List

According to the Culture, Sports and Tourism Department in Ba Ria Vung Tau province, the Ministry of the Culture, Sports and Tourism has named two cultural festivals in the province in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

A procession at Nghing Ong festival

Specifically, these two festivals in the province are Nghing Ong Festival in Thang Tam ward of Vung Tau city and Dinh Co Festival in Long Dien district.

Nghinh Ong festival at Thang Tam communal house takes place from the 16th to 18th in the 8th lunar month every year to express gratitude to Ca Ong (whale) and pray for favorable weather conditions, safe and successful fishing trips and a prosperous and happy life. The annual festival consists of two parts: the ceremonial activities include procession and offering rituals for worshiping gods;  the festive part features folk games such as fishing contest, net weaving, tug of war, checkered chess competition on sand, etc.

Dinh Co festival with the participation of thousands of fishermen and tourists

Dinh Co Festival (in Long Hai town, Long Dien district) is held on the 10th and 12th of the second lunar month annually at Dinh Co historical site, considered as one of biggest water festivals in the coastal South with the participation of thousands of fishermen, local residents and visitors. The festival features various activities including worshipping rituals and folk games.

So, together with the commemoration of the death anniversary of Lady Phi Yen in Con Dao district, three traditional festivals in Ba Ria Vung Tau province have been named in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
