Hai Duong authorities held on March 1 a ceremony to open Tranh Temple Festival and receive the certificate of its recognition as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Tranh Temple, located in Dong Tam commune of Ninh Giang district has been classified as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2009. The temple still preserves many cultural values with many annual events, including festivals, which have been handed down through generations.
Tranh Temple has two major festival annually held on the second lunar month and the eighth lunar month. The main festival took place from the 10th day to the 20th day of the second lunar month. The second festival organized on the 22nd day of the eighth lunar month aims to commemorate the death anniversary of General Trần Hưng Đạo who had great contributions in the battle against Mongol invaders in the 13th century.
On the same day, Da Hoa Temple Festival in Binh Minh commune of Hung Yen province’s Khoai Chau district also received the certificate of recognition as a national intangible cultural heritage, as well as opened Chu Dong Tu – Tien Dung Festival 2023.

The Chu Dong Tu – Tien Dung festival at Da Hoa Temple honors the legendary immortal love of fisherman Chử Đồng Tử and princess Tiên Dung, and prays for good weather and bumper crops.
This year, the festival featured traditional rituals including worshipping procession and offerings, folk games and cultural exchanges such as Chinese chess, swimming, Ca tru singing, Trong quan singing, dragon dance competition, etc.
