Seminar on preserving intangible cultural values of “Buong” leaf scriptures held in An Giang

The seminar themed “preserving and upholding intangible cultural values of “Buong” leaf scriptures” was held on May 11 at Sa Lon pagoda in An Giang province’s Tri Ton district.

The seminar was co-organized by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in collaboration with the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the VBS’s Executive Committee in An Giang and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under Vietnam National University (Ho Chi Minh city branch).
“Buong” leaf scriptures are a type of books written on dry leaves and appeared in South Asian countries more than 2,000 years ago, to record sutras such as Buddhist scriptures and other events. Many countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, etc influenced by the culture and religion from India or Sri Lanka have been used to “Buong” leaf scriptures.
The seminar received 71 presentations on preserving and promoting values of “Buong” leaf scriptures from Buddhist dignitaries, researchers and scholars across the country.
