On February 2, 2023 (the twelfth day of the first lunar month), the fish-worshipping festival was organized in front of Thai Duong village’s hall (Thuan An ward, Hue city). It is a traditional event organized to pray for favorable weather condition, peace and bumper harvest. The Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Hoàng Hải Minh attended the event.

At the event, the elderly of Thai Duong village beat the drum and re-enacted fishing activities. At the village hall, villagers re-enacted traditional fishing activities like “bua luoi” (throwing the cast net), “tro que” and “nau luoi”. Children cosplayed as shrimp, fish while adults cast the fishing net around. This stands for the wish for bumper harvest, peace and favorable weather condition. Next, locals and visitors together enjoyed boat race on Tam Giang lagoon. The atmosphere was warmed up by drums, the applause of villagers and boats docking along the riverbank.
Delegates attended at fish-worshipping festival
According to Mr. Nguyễn Văn Mai, the head of the organizing board, this fish-worshipping festival has existed for hundreds of years. Once every three years, in the year of the mouse, the cat, the horse and the chicken, the festival is held to pray for favorable weather condition, happiness and prosperity. The festival was aimed to extend the gratitude to village founder, Mr. Trương Quý Công, also-called Trương Thiều, the first citizen and Sy Hoang dai lang - a well-known writer honored as village founder. These two figures received “Than sac Ton Than Than vi” titles by Emperor Thành Thái, Duy Tân and Khải Định.
