Congress of Catholics for national construction and defense in Ha Tinh province’s Cam Xuyen district

The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in Ha Tinh province’s Cam Xuyen district convened the 7th congress of Catholics for national construction and defense on April 26.

This is also the first district-level congress chose by the Catholics Solidarity Committee in the province.

Participating in the event included members of the Vietnamese Catholic solidarity committee in Ha Tinh province and district-level Catholic solidarity boards, priests, clergymen and clergywomen, parish councils and 78 outstanding parishioners in Cam Xuyen district.

As reported at the event, during the last five years, the Catholic community in the district has made practical contributions to movements launched for social cohesion, socio-economic development, national security protection and rural development in the locality.

In particular, Catholics in the district have donated 13,000 m2 of land, 18,000 trees and thousands of working days to build 14 km of concrete roads, 7 km of infield roads and many other public works in the locality.

In addition, the Catholic community in the district has spent nearly two billion VND on social charities including 27 charity houses built for poor locals.

Outstanding Catholics receive certificates of recommendation

During the event, 18 Catholics were presented with certificates of recommendation by the district People's Committee for their outstanding contributions for national construction and defense in the locality for the 2017-2022 term.

Cam Xuyen district currently has over 15,000 Catholics with seven parishes and 25 sub-parishes.
