Buddhists in Ben Tre release live fish

The Social Charity Board under the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Ben Tre province in collaboration with the provincial Fisheries Society held on August 17 a fish release program.

The event saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Nhựt Tấn, Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Ben Tre, Senior Venerable Thích Trí Thọ, Vice Chairman of the VBS executive committee, Venerable Thích Trí Thuận, Head of the provincial VBS’s social charity board, Director of the provincial Agriculture and Rural Development Department Đoàn Văn Đảnh, Head of the provincial Fisheries Society Cao Văn Viết, and over 200 lay Buddhists in the province.

During the event, ten tons of live fish were released at the junction of Rach Say Bridge of Ben Tre River.

The program also called on people not to release alien species that are at risk of invasiveness into the local environment and encourage indigenous fish of economic value, rare and endangered species in order to restore and regenerate the declining aquatic resources, as well as promoted resources for fish release in the water bodies of the Mekong Delta.

On the same day, at Vinh An pagoda located in Mo Cay Nam district’s An Thoi commune, the provincial VBS’s social charity board presented 200 sets of supports to the disadvantaged elderly in Binh Khanh and An Thoi communes, and 100 sets of supports in Giong Trom district, with the value of 96 million VND in total.
