The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Soc Trang province held on March 30 its 10th congress (2022-2027 tenure).

The event taking place at the Center for Culture in Soc Trang saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Minh Hồng and Most Venerable Thạch Huôn, Members of the VBS’s Central Discernment Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Đào Như, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s executive council; Most Venerable Thích Huệ Thông, Deputy General Secretary of the VBS’s executive council cum Chief of the VBS’s Central Office in Ho Chi Minh City, and about 400 monks, nuns and other outstanding Buddhists in the province.
Guests at the event included Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Lâm Văn Mẫn and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trần Văn Lầu.
As reported at the event, Soc Trang currently has 2,175 monks and nuns and Buddhist practitioners residing in 189 Buddhist worshipping places including 92 Theravada Buddhist pagodas.
In the 2017-2022 period, the VBS executive committee in the province has launched social charities with the total value of over 394 billion VND.
New VBS executive committee in Soc Trang makes its debut at the event
The one-day congress elected a new 75-member executive committee of the VBS chapter in Soc Trang with Most Venerable Tăng Nô re-elected as Head of the provincial VBS executive committee.
On the occasion, 12 Buddhist groups and 21 individuals were presented with certificates of merit by the Central VBS, 13 Buddhist groups and 11 individuals were presented with certificates of recommendation by the provincial People’s Committee for their practical contributions to the national solidarity over the last five years.
