Y Yen district of Nam Dinh province has numerous historical and cultural relics, and over the past years, the locality paid much attention to restoring and renovating the degrading relic sites, thus promoting historical and cultural values.
As reported, the locality is home to 41 historic-cultural relics, of which 13 were classified as national – level monuments and 28 provincial-level relics. In order to prevent the relics’ degradation, local authorities have implemented many measures to protect the relics in the locality from violation.
Particularly, the cultural and sport office of the district has actively organized practical activities for protecting the historical and cultural relics, and all communes in the district have set up relic management boards with specific rules of operation.
Local authorities in collaboration with specialized agencies have implemented the relics’ planning, demarcation and conservation zones, as well as set up supervision boards to supervise the renovation and embellishment of relics in the district, so as to maintain the original architecture of the relic sites.
Many localities have also successfully raised funds for financing the preservation and embellishment of the relics. Thanks to raised funds, An Lac pagoda in Yen Lac commune has been renovated at the cost of two billion VND; Duong Chinh pagoda in Yen Khanh commune has built worshipping places of Mother Goddesses and the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, pagoda gate and bridge in the relic site with estimated cost at billions of VND.
In addition, the district authorities have also paid attention to raise awareness of cultural heritage preservation amongst school students in the district. According to a report, 42 elementary schools, 33 secondary schools and seven high schools in the district have organized extracurricular activities for preserving cultural heritage and learning about traditional worshipping practices.
