Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee holds seminar on new religious phenomenon

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee held on June 15 a seminar on new religious phenomenon.  

The event was co-chaired by Vice president of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) Ngô Sách Thực and Prof. Dr. Đỗ Quang Hưng, Head of the Fatherland Front Committee’s Advisory Council on Religion.

Jointing the seminar included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Ánh Chức, representatives from institutes relating religious studies, and several researchers and scholars.

The event gathered 10 presentation papers on new religious phenomena in the world and Vietnam, focusing on studies and management of new religious phenomenon, and recommended policies for each type of new religious phenomenon.

According to Vice President Ngô Sách Thực, the seminar on new religious phenomena was part of an implementing project for strengthening religious unity in the country approved by the VFF central committee.

He also emphasized that many new religious phenomena have appeared in Vietnam over the past 30 years, and these new religious phenomena have brought many impacts on the social life. Practices of several new religious phenomena have created conflicts with the existing traditional culture, and caused instability in some localities in the country, VFF official stated.
