Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Ngô Sách Thực has led a delegation to survey initiatives of religious organizations for protection environment and climate change adaption in Thua Thien Hue province.
The survey was undertaken on the sideline of the training conference on Humanitarian Charter and International Standards for Humanitarian Aids held from June 29 to July 1 for religious dignitaries in the provinces and cities of the North and Central regions.
At Hai Duc community support centre under the provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in Huong Thuy town, Vice President Ngô Sách Thực learnt about the model, structure and operation of the centre.
According to Senior Venerable deputy head of the supporting centre Thích Tâm Quang, after three years of implementing the coordination program between the Central VFF Committee’s Standing Committee, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and religions on environmental protection and climate change adaptation for the 2015-2020 period, the center has provided training for 38 emergency rescue teams from five districts.
The centre has also organized a swimming skill program for 37 leading youth of the Buddhist families and under guidance of these leading youth, 400 children from 9 to 13 years old have been taught how to swim. The centre plans to teach swimming to 200 children in Phu Loc district in the coming time.
At the Daughters of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception located in Hue city, sisters of the Congregation informed practical activities for environment protection by the Congregation over the past years.
Responding the message of Pope France on environment protection, sisters of the Congregation shared knowledge around environmental protection with hundreds of young people and encouraged over 50 branches of the congregation in 11 dioceses to participate in the protection environment movement, Sister Trần Thị Kim Xuân said. Sisters also encouraged people to bring shopping bags when go shopping in order to limit the use of plastic bags as well as choose bicycles or public transportations for reducing emissions of pollutants.
At Kim Long charity clinic Nun in charge of the charity clinic Dr. Nguyễn Thị Điền informed that the clinic often discussed with patients and their relatives on effects of environmental pollution.
Talking about the waste classification system in the clinic, Nun Trần Thị Xuân shared that after sorting out, most of the waste was shipped to recycling facilities.
During the visits, Vice President Ngô Sách Thực spoke highly of practical contributions by Hai Duc community support centre and the Catholic congregation. He also expressed hope that the centre and the Congregation would expand successful models for environment protection.
According to head of the religious affairs department under the VFF Nguyễn Văn Thanh, this survey aimed to prepare for the review of three years implementing the coordination program between the Central VFF Committee’s Standing Committee, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and religions on environmental protection and climate change adaptation expected to held at the end of this year.
