Social, charitable contributions of Buddhist dignitary in Dong Thap

Venerable Thích Chơn Trí, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Dong Thap province cum Abbot of Phuoc Hung pagoda located in the province’s Sa Dec city has made practical contributions in social charities over the past years.  

Venerable Thích Chơn Trí has successfully raised funds from monks, nuns and lay Buddhists for presenting 3,450 gift sets to the poor and 150 bicycles to students of poor families, and supporting the construction of 35 charitable houses with the total investment of over three billion VND.

In 2020, responding to the call by the venerable, monks, nuns and lay Buddhists have donated one billion VND for presenting 29.7 million face masks, 6,000 medical masks and 15 liters of antiseptic water; operating a Rice ATM sending 45 tons of rice, 30,000 chicken eggs, three tons of vegetables and 500 gifts, valued at over 800 million VND in total to lottery sellers during the quarantine time.

In addition, the provincial VBS vice chairman also successfully launched a charitable program for sending 2,000 gift packs containing rice, noodles, sugars, cooking oils, medicines, blankets, cash and necessities, valued at nearly two billion VND in total, to people suffering hurricanes and floods in Central provinces.

The charitable programs launched by the venerable in 2020 were valued at over 6.8 billion VND in total.

Venerable Thích Chơn Trí has been presented certificates of recommendation by provincial authorities for his practical contributions in 2020.
