Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee in collaboration with the National University held on December 11 a seminar on Zen Master Pháp Loa in Dong Trieu provincial city.
The seminar themed “Zen Master Pháp Loa – The career of Buddhist practice, meditation and historical imprints" was held on occasion of the 690th death anniversary of the great monk.
Joining the seminar included Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Thị Minh Nga, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Thị Hạnh, Principal of the National University Assoc. Prof, Dr. Nguyễn Kim Sơn, Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha(VBS)’s Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang, Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, Most Venerable Thích Quảng Tùng, Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện and Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết, Vice Chairmen of the VBS’s Executive Council, and large numbers of Buddhist and historical scholars and researchers, and representatives from concerning central and local authorities.
The seminar drew nearly 100 presentation papers from Buddhist dignitaries, scholars and researchers across the country, offering new approaches, materials and assessments of contributions and influences of Zen Master Pháp Loa in particular and Truc Lam Zen Buddhism in general, to history of Buddhism as well as to social and cultural development in the country.
As reported, Buddhist Zen Master Pháp Loa (1284-1330) was the second Patriarch of Truc Lam Zen Buddhism. In his 26 year of Buddhist practice, Zen Master Pháp Loa has inherited and promoted Truc Lam Zen Buddhism which was founded by King-Monk Trần Nhân Tông, and made important contributions to propagate Buddhist Dharma and develop Truc Lam Zen Buddhism in Vietnam.
