The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee in Quang Binh province in collaboration with the Religious Studies Institute under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences held on December 17 a seminar on Buddhist development in Quang Binh.
Buddhism in Quang Binh has a long history of hundreds of years. Many pagodas in the province were built during the Tran dynasty and used to be major Buddhist centers.
Quang Binh province currently has 3,000 Buddhist followers residing in 42 communes of the province’s seven districts. Buddhism in Quang Binh has five VBS chapters with the provincial executive committee and four district-level executive board of Bo Trach, Le Thuy, Tuyen Hoa and Quang Ninh.
The seminar drew 47 presentation papers focusing on the clarification of the development of Buddhism in Quang Binh; contributions of monks, nuns, lay people to Buddhist development in the province through historical periods; Buddhist values to be preserved and promoted and measures for promoting the Buddhist’s role in the social life.
