The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee in Ho Chi Minh City on November 8 held a roundtable meeting on religions’ role in the environmental protection.
The event drew the participation of representatives of concerning municipal departments, agencies and religious organizations in the city.
During the event, participating religious dignitaries recommended specific measures for raising people’s awareness of the environmental issue and responsibility toward environmental protection and climate change adaptation in localities, including imposition of administrative fines for improper discharge of waste, improvement in the waste collection & disposal and keeping public places clean and green, etc.
Addressing at the roundtable discussion, Deputy Head of the municipal Party Committee Võ Thị Dung praised results of the coordination between the VFF committee, the municipal department for natural resources and environment, and religions in Ho Chi Minh City over the past three years.
According to Vice Chairman of the municipal VFF committee Trần Hữu Phước, religious organizations in the city in collaboration with the VFF have developed and operated 200 model programs and action plans for environmental conservation and climate change response.
