The Southern province of Ca Mau is currently home to 374,000 followers of Buddhism, Caodaism, Catholicism, Christianity, Hoa Hao Buddhism and Vietnam Pure-land Buddhism, belonging to 157 sub-organizations, and 550 worshiping places of folk beliefs.
Implementing the Ordinance on Belief and Religion 2004, and later the Law on Belief and Religion 2016 and its guiding Decree 162, the provincial government of Ca Mau has promptly issued instructions and guidance for disseminating the laws and safeguarding people’s right to freedom of belief and religion in accordance with the enacted legislations.
Regarding the popularization of the Law on Belief and Religion and Decree 162, for the last five years, 23 conferences and meetings for dissemination of the enacted laws on belief and religion have been held, with over 3,520 participants who are key followers on religions and state personnel tasked with the state administration on belief and religion in the locality.
State authorities at all levels in Ca Mau have also facilitated religious affairs of organizations and religious practices of believers in accordance with state laws and religious charters and regulations.
Specifically, for the last five years, competent state authorities in Ca Mau have guided and created favorable conditions for the establishment of 16 religious sub-organizations, transfer of 114 religious dignitaries, organizations of 13 religious training courses with 1,800 participating religious followers, construction and upgrade of religious worshipping facilities, worshipping festivals, religious preaching of religious dignitaries overseas in the province, as well as religious affairs and practices in accordance with registered programs, etc.
In additions, religious individuals and organizations in Ca Mau have also proactively engaged in programs and movements launched for socio-economic development in the locality. In each of the previous years, religious organizations in the province have spent over 40 billion VND on social-charitable activities.
