Religious volunteers honored for their contributions to Covid-19 fight in Ho Chi Minh City

91 religious volunteers of the 1st batch having completed voluntary services at Covid-19 treatment hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City attended an honoring ceremony held on August 23.

The event was co-organized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee in Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the municipal Committee for Religious Affairs, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in the city, and the Ho Chi Minh City Catholic Archdiocese.

During the event, Mrs. Nguyễn La Mai Hoan, Deputy Chief Nurse of the Covid-19 Intensive Resuscitation Hospital in the city informed results the voluntary religious followers have actively aided doctors and nurses in taking care of Covid-19 patients, especially serious Covid-19 cases. 

She also said, after a time of confusion in the beginning, religious volunteers took care of Covid-19 patients enthusiastically and efficiently, from cleaning patients’ bodies, beds, and rooms, taking care of the intake of foods and medicines, etc., and religious volunteers have created such an encouragement for doctors and nurses and contributed to reduce pressure endured by the frontline medical staff in the city.

Speaking at the event, Chairwoman of the municipal VFF Committee Tô Thị Bích Châu expressed her sincere thanks to religious volunteers for their voluntary spirit to go into places with a high risk of infection for directly taking care of Covid-19 patients, practically contributing to reduce pressure endured by the frontline medical staff. 

She also emphasized that the pioneering spirit of these religious volunteers has spread and encouraged other religious and ethnic people to register for their voluntary services in the frontline force against Covid-19 in hospitals. 

Also the event, the Standing Committee of the municipal VFF Committee presented certificates of recommendation and souvenirs to 91 religious volunteers.

These 91 volunteers were amongst the 1st batch of 299 religious volunteers who served at the Covid-19 Intensive Resuscitation Hospital, Field Hospital for Covid-19 treatment No. 10 and number 12 located in the city from July 22.
