The Fatherland Front Committee, department of natural resources and environment and religious organizations in Hai Phong have reviewed three-year implementation of the coordination program promoting religious engagement for environment protection for the 2016-2020 period.
So far, local religious originations have signed commitment and implemented activities to frequently collect rubbish and wastes, clean streets and encourage locals to classify wastes before discharge.
In particular, the communication on environmental protection and climate change response has been incorporated in Buddhist training courses, including the annual Buddhist summer retreat; local Catholics have participated in trainings and seminars on environmental protection, risk reduction and skill for rescue of victims; Caodai followers have planted trees and decorated public places with flowers and bonsais, etc. Protestant followers in Kien An district’s Bac Son commune have proactively got themselves involved in the movement engaging people in the environment protection launched by local authorities.
A pilot model on environment protection has also been launched in the religious-concentrated residential area of Chien Thang Village in An Duong district’s Dang Cuong commune.
In joining the coordination program for environmental protection and climate change adaptation and through exchanges of experiences, religious organizations in Hai Phong have also promoted cohesion and close cooperation amongst religious communities.
