The rain praying ritual of J’rai ethnic group was reinstated at a ceremony held on April 30 at Plei Rbai B village in Gia Lai’s province’s Phu Thien district.
The rain praying ceremony is a folk cultural worshipping practice of J’rai ethnic group with the aim to pray for good weather, bumper harvests, happiness, and prosperity.
The ceremony used to take place in the dry season when severe droughts occur in order to pray for rain.
According to Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee Nguyễn Ngọc Ngô, since the recognition of the rain praying ceremony as a national intangible cultural heritage, local authorities have planned to reinstate this annual worshipping practice in order to preserve and uphold the unique worshipping practice of J’rai people, contributing to enrich the national culture of Vietnamese ethnic groups.
