Provincial Party’s committee in Soc Trang extends visit to provincial VBS on occasion of Vu Lan Festival

A delegation of authorities in Soc Trang province extended on August 26 a visit to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in the province, on occasion of Vu Lan, known as Buddhist Parents’ Day Festival

The delegation was led by Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Lâm Văn Mẫn and joint by Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairman of provincial People’s Council Hồ Thị Cẩm Đào, Chairman of the provincial Mass Mobilization Commission cum President of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Dương Sà Kha.

Welcoming the delegation visit at Truc Lam Monastery included Most Venerable Tăng Nô, Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Soc Trang cum Deputy Head of the Solidarity of Patriotic Monks Association in the province and Abbot of Khleang pagoda.

Vu Lan Festival is the day for people to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to their parents and accentors. This year festival took place in the ongoing complicated context of the pandemic.

During the visit, while extending congratulations of Vu Lan festival to monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in the province, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Hồ Thị Cẩm Đào spoke highly of practical contributions made by Buddhist followers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As reported, during Vu Lan festival this year, local Buddhist followers have mobilized resources for presenting rice, vegetables, fruits and other necessities to disadvantaged people hard hit by the pandemic in Soc Trang and neighboring provinces and cities.

In addition, the delegation has also visited Huong Son pagoda and extended greetings to monks, nuns, and lay followers who are preparing meals for disadvantaged people badly affected by the pandemic.
