According to a report, the Catholic community in Hau Giang province currently has 22 working models for environment protection and climate change adaptation.
In recent years, Phung Tuong Catholic community’s management board in collaboration with local authorities paid visits to each Catholic family for disseminating harmful effects of garbage and guiding locals how to classify waste and dispose them appropriately.
According to parishioner Phạm Thị Thu Oanh, thanks to the guidance of local authorities and Catholic priests of the community, she knew how to classify garbage for recycle and turn waste into fertilizer.
As reported, over 100 mini-incinerators of Catholic families in Phung Tuong Catholic community have proved to be highly effective in dealing with rural waste in the locality.
A new rural construction club has been established by followers of Chieu Minh Long Chau Caodai Church’s Holy See located in Chau Thanh A district’s Tan Phu Thanh commune.
Members of the club frequently participate in pruning hedgerows and planting flowers along main roads of the commune. “I see the positive changes in environmental protection awareness from of our followers”, Standing Head of Chieu Minh Long Chau Caodai Church Lê Hữu Lễ said.
In addition, Bao Tinh pagoda in Vi Thanh city has twice a month organized disseminating programs for local Buddhists on harmful effects of garbage and protection of living environment.
Speaking at a meeting in response to the World Environment Day 2018 held by the provincial authorities, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial Vietnam Father Front (VFF)’s committee Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Loan stressed the need for building at least one religious-run model on environment protection in each commune, ward or town in the province and proposed to launch a contest on religious models for environmental protection and sustainable poverty reduction.
