Promoting leading roles of young Buddhists

The Vietnam Youth Union Central Committee (VYU) and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) signed on March 29 in Hanoi a cooperation program for the 2022 – 2025 period.

Under the signed document, the two sides will join hands to mobilize resources and organize social activities for supporting disadvantaged youth and poor people in border areas, mountainous regions, coastal towns and islands.

Specifically, every year, the program will build at least 100 charity and community houses in villages, worth 50 million VND each and 10 schools and boarding houses for pupils, worth 500 million VND each; present at least 1,000 scholarships worth 3 million VND each to poor pupils with excellent academic achievements and 1,000 health insurance cards to people with meritorious services, disadvantaged children and local people.

The two sides will also encourage young Buddhists to participate in the restoration of historical and cultural relics and propagation of Buddhism; building and promotion of roles of young Buddhists including monks and other Buddhist dignitaries; the launching of  relief services and operation for people affected by floods and natural disasters.

The VYU and the VBS at all levels will build plans, guide and inspect the implementation of the coordination program; as well as review results and honor outstanding groups and individuals in the implementation of the program./.
