The Ministry for Culture, Sports and Tourism issued on July 16 a decision approving a project on digitizing festival data in Vietnam for the period of 2021-2025.
The project is considered as a comprehensive inventory in order to ensure a unified management of archival affairs professionally regarding festivals. In the coming time, a portal on Vietnamese festivals will also be created, contributing to overcome difficulties in managing and accessing festival data.
As pointed out in the project, the collection of information, data processing, synthesis, publication and storage of information must be done in accordance with the state regulations, ensuring the complete, accurate, timely, non-duplicate, complete collection of information specified in the investigation plan, and confidentiality of information collected from the subjects of investigation according to the state regulations.
For the first time, the 4.0 technology is used to collect basic information, review and evaluate the current situation of festivals in the country to serve the management, conservation and promotion of Vietnamese festivals’ value. The project on digitizing festival data also aims at increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the state management on festivals, and enhancing roles and responsibilities of concerning ministries, sectors, local authorities and people in festival activities.
After completion, the project will convert the traditional data management method to the electronic management and storage, meeting the requirements of the state management of festival activities in the context of rapid development of information technology.
The project would be implemented in five years, and divided into 2 phases. The 2021-2022 phase has the tasks of the investigation and statistics of festivals in Vietnam, the investment in information technology equipment, the development of database management software and Vietnam Festival Portal, the digitization and construction of a database of traditional festivals. The 2nd phase from 2023-2025 will digitize and build a database of cultural festivals, industry festivals and festivals of foreign origins, complete the database management software and Vietnam Festival Portal, as well as training for software uses and access, etc.
