Preservation and promotion of traditional culture of Nam Son commune in Quang Ninh

Nam Son commune in Ba Che district of the northern province of Quảng Ninh has for a long time been known as a locality with many cultural relic sites.  

The highlights of cultural activities in Ba Che district in 2020 has included Ban Vuong festival with links to Nam Son commune and the recognition of Mieu Ong - Mieu Ba heritage site in the commune as a national relic site.

During Ban Vuong festival, the 12 Dao family lineages of Ban, Trieu, Dang, Duong, Hoang, Linh, Ly, Trinh, Tran, Ma, Chuong and Vuong went on boats and reenacted the journey “crossing to sea” to the new land.

In 2020, Ba Che district has implemented a project for preserving and promoting the values of Dao’s cultural heritage to serve the development of community-based tourism in Son Hai village, Nam Son commune, Ba Che district, with the new construction of Ban Vuong temple and traditional house of Dao ethnic group located in Son Hai village. These construction works aimed to meet worshipping needs of the Dao ethnic communities in Ba Che district and develop tourism in the locality.

Phun Voong dance is an important cultural ritual of the Dao ethnic group and often featured during festivals of the district. Phun Voong dance club in Nam Son commune has effectively operated for the many years.

In addition, the highlight of Mieu Ong and Mieu Ba festival is a boat racing in Ba Che river. The boat-making craft in Lang Moi village in Nam Son commune was founded 30 years ago by nine households together in the village. Lang Moi village has still maintained a facility making unique boats for racing during the annual Mieu Ong and Mieu Ba festival.
