PM receives standing members of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam

Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc received on November 18 in Hanoi a delegation of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam (CBCV) led by Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh, President of the CBCV cum Head of Hue Archdiocese.  

Joining the reception included Chairman of the Office of the Government Mai Tiến Dũng and Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng.

At the reception meeting, PM Nguyễn Xuân Phúc congratulated his guests on the success of the CBCV’s 14th general conference held in Hai Phong from September 30 to October 4, during which the conference elected its Standing Committee and heads of the subordinate committees for 2019-2022.

The Prime Minister expressed his hope that, under the leadership and instruction of the CBCV President and the Standing Committee, the Catholic Church in Vietnam will increasingly develop alongside with socio-economic development in the country.

Briefing his guests of outstanding development attainments, the Government leader said Vietnam’s relations with other countries, including the Vatican, have been enhanced unceasingly. He attributed those achievements partly to practical contributions by Catholic followers of Vietnam, noting that they have proactively engaged social movements for socio-economic, rural development and environmental protection.

The government leader also affirmed that the Party and State always pay attention to and create favorable conditions for meeting legitimate religious needs of all people, thus helping encourage them to stay united in the great national unity bloc.

Informing the PM of the success of the CBCV’s 14th congress, Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh appreciated the Government and local authorities’ support for the event.

He also expressed hope that the PM, the Government and relevant agencies will continue supporting the CBCV in particular and Catholic Church in general in the coming time, and create more favorable conditions for Catholic followers to make more practical contributions to the cause of national construction and defense.
