Party official visits Buddhist Patriarch on Buddha’s Birthday

Head of Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Trương Thị Mai visited Most Venerable Thích Phổ Tuệ, Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), ahead of the 2562nd Birthday of Lord Buddha on May 21.  

Joining her visiting reception at Vien Minh pagoda in Quang Lang commune in Hanoi’s Phu Xuyen district included Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng.

At the meeting Mrs. Mai wished the Most Venerable good health and extended greetings to all Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the country on occasion of the Buddha Birthday festival, know as Vesak Day 2018. She said the Party and Government acknowledged the VBS’s contributions to national unity and socio-economic development in the country.

Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng also took the chance to wish the Patriarch and all Buddhist followers happy celebrations of the Vesak Day 2018 (B.E. 2562) and expressed hope that the Most Venerable would continue to lead the Buddhist sangha towards solidarity and practical contributions to the society and the country.

Supreme Patriarch Thích Phổ Tuệ thanked the Party and State of Vietnam for their due attention, and expected to receive further support from state authorities to Buddhist practices and Buddhist affairs of the Buddhist sangha.
