Deputy Secretary of Nghe An provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Thái Thanh Quý led a delegation on February 11 to visit and extend congratulations to new Bishop of Vinh diocese Alfonso Nguyễn Hữu Long.
During the visit, while extending congratulatory wishes to new Bishop Alfonso Nguyễn Hữu Long of Vinh diocese, Deputy Secretary Thái Thanh Quý expressed hope that in his new position, the new Bishop would continue promoting fine relations between the local authorities and the diocese, as well as encouraging Catholic priests and followers to actively engage in programs launched for the socio-economic development in the province.
Pope Francis on December 22 announced the establishment of Ha Tinh diocese from part of Vinh diocese and the appointment of Bishop Paul Nguyễn Thái Hợp and Bishop Alfonso Nguyễn Hữu Long as top dignitaries of Ha Tinh and Vinh dioceses respectively.
