Meeting with typical religious dignitaries held in Ben Tre ahead of Tet festival

Ben Tre provincial authorirties held on January 29 a meeting with typical religious dignitaries in the locality ahead of Lunar New Year (Tet) 2019.

The event saw the presence of Deputy General Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Trần Ngọc Tam, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Hữu Phước, representatives of the provincial departments and offices, and 130 religious dignitaries who made outstanding contributions in social programs and movements launched in the locality in 2018.

During the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Hữu Phước shared with religious delegates results of socio-economic development in the locality in 2018, as well as praised participating religious dignitaries for their practical contributions to socio-economic development, public order and environmental protection in the locality over the past years.

According to the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front committee, local religious organizations contributed a total value of over VND 121 billion to social and charitable programs, and presented 2,667 gift sets valued at over 900 million VND to the disadvantaged in the province in 2018.

Ben Tre province is currently home to over 230,000 followers, accounting for 16.67% of the population in the province, with 501 worship facilities of Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Hoa Hao Buddhism, Minh Su Theravada Buddhism, Pure-land Buddhism, Four Debts of Gratitude, Buu Son Ky Huong and six Caodai sects.
