Marquis Nguyen Huu Canh’s 320th death anniversary commemorated

The 320th death anniversary of Marquis Nguyen Huu Canh was solemnly commemorated at a ceremony held on July 6 at his temple located in District 9 in Ho Chi Minh City.  

Present at the event organized by the municipal government included Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyễn Thành Phong, Chairwoman of the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Tô Thị Bích Châu and large numbers of local authorities’s representatives and religious dignitaries.

Nguyen Huu Canh was born in 1650 in Phong Loc dictrict (which is now Quang Ninh District of Quang Binh province).  Under the Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu’s court, Nguyen Huu Canh was a famous army commander and an excellent administrator. He is credited for expanding territories to the south and establishing the administrative management for the southern region at the end of the 17th century.

His death anniversary has been held annually on the 16th day of the fifth lunar at his temple in Ho Chi Minh City.
