Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee of Kien Giang Lâm Minh Thành informed on September 8 that the Nguyen Trung Truc Temple festival and the Khmer culture – sport-tourism festival this year will be held only with ceremonial rituals, without cultural activities for as a cautious measure against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Regarding the Nguyen Trung Truc festival to be organized for three days from October 12-14, there will be only offering rituals, without formalities and invitations of guesses from neighboring provinces as in previous years.
At temples worshipping national hero Nguyen Trung Truc in Kien Giang province’s districts of Phu Quoc, Chau Thanh, Hon Dat, etc, large gatherings of people are also requested for preventing the spread of Covid-19.
For the Khmer cultural, sport and tourist festival, the provincial government of Kien Giang also suspended all activities in Go Quao town, and allowed only the moon worshipping activities to be taken place in Khmer Buddhist temples.
The Nguyen Trung Truc festival and the Khmer cultural, sport and tourist festival are the two major festive events in Kien Giang annually attracting millions of locals and visitors in the country and abroad.
