Vice Chairman of Quang Binh provincial People’s Committee Trần Tiến Dũng led a delegation on November 23 to visit and meet with Bishop Paul Nguyễn Thái Hợp of Vinh Diocese at Huong Phuong parish in the province’s Quang Trach district.
Joining the meeting included representatives of the provincial committee for religious affairs, the office of the people committee, and priests from the Bishop’s House and Huong Phuong Parish.
During the visit meeting, Vice Chairman Trần Tiến Dũng informed the hosts that, for the past years, local authorities at various levels in Quang Binh province have paid due attention to meet the need for practices of Catholicism in the province, and so far approved for Vinh Diocese to establish new parishes, granted and reallocated land for the diocese’s parishes to build new worshipping facilities, and paid compensation to Catholic families for the difficulties caused by the environment incidents, etc.
The vice chairman also expressed hope that Vinh Diocese would closely work with Quang Binh provincial authorities in addressing a number of remaining issues relating Catholicism in the province, as well as encourage local Catholics to keep close relation and better coordination with local authorities
Speaking with the guests, Bishop Paul Nguyễn Thái Hợp highly appreciated supportive consideration by Quang Binh provincial authorities in addressing a number of issues related to Catholicism in the province over the past years, and said, this support contributed to ensure Catholic practices conducted in accordance with state laws. The bishop also requested the provincial government to further support solving some issues related to land and building of worshipping establishments for local Catholics.
