Lay Buddhists in Ca Mau receives updated information on gender imbalance

As many as 120 lay Buddhists from Buddhist Families in Ca Mau province have participated in a seminar on gender imbalance held on November 10.  

The event taking place in Phat To Pagoda located in Ward 4 of Ca Mau provincial city was organized by the General Department of Population and Family Planning under the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the provincial committee for religious affairs of Ca Mau.

Present at seminar also included Doctor Mai Xuân Phương, Deputy Director of Communication and Education under the General Department of Population and Family Planning, and representatives from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ca Mau, the provincial religious committee and the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in the Southern province.

The one-day seminar updated information on gender imbalance in Vietnam and recommended measures for the gender imbalance control, especially sexual imbalance at birth, with the promotion of gender equality and enhancing women roles regarded as key tasks.

According to the latest report on the world’s population conducted by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Vietnam’s imbalance rate in 2019 was 111.5 boys per 100 girls, behind only China and India - the two most populous countries in the world.
