Kien Giang approves project on Hung Kings festival

Kien Giang provincial authorities approved on September 10 a project on the expansion of Hung Kings festival in Hung Kings temple located in the province’s Tan Hiep district.

The project aimed to preserve and promote traditional values of the national festival, and turning the festival site into an attractive tourist destination in the southern province of Kien Giang.

Hung Kings temple situated in Dong Binh village of Tan Hiep district’s Tan Hiep town was originally built by local villagers in 1957 with temporary materials.  The temple has been classified as the historical – cultural relic site in the province since 2004.

Since 2010, Kien Giang province has listed Hung Kings temple festival in Tan Hiep district as one of eight typical festivals in the province. The festival is also an opportunity for traditional and modern cultural exchanges between regions.   

The project aimed to expand the festival’s scale for suiting worshipping needs of local people and historical significance and value of the relic site, preserve and promote a traditional festival with typical cultural identities of the locality, contribute to improving the spiritual life of local people including young generations.
