Kate festival 2021 in Ninh Thuan to be canceled

Ninh Thuan provincial People’s Committee issued on September 28 a dispatch requesting the cancelation of Kate festival 2021 of Cham Brahmins in the province.  

The dispatch was signed by Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Long Biên and sent to the provincial Department for Culture, Sport and Tourism and concerning agencies.

Accordingly, in order to strictly implement measures for the Covid-19 prevention and control, the provincial People's Committee asked the cancelation of festive and cultural activities at Cham temples, towers, worshipping places, and public places during the Kate festival 2021.

Locals were asked to only perform the Kate ceremony within their own families without gatherings; and do not invite guests and relatives from other locality.

The provincial People's Committee also assigned the Department of Home Affairs to strengthen coordination with the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the provincial Commission for Mass Mobilization, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Council of Brahmin dignitaries in the province and custom boards of Cham temples and towers for encouraging Cham Brahmins to only perform the Kate ceremony with a strictly implementation of the Covid-19 prevention measures.

Kate festival 2021 of the Cham Brahmin in Ninh Thuan province will take place from October 4 to October 7.
