02/19/2019

The Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Ha Tinh province in collaboration with Huong Son district People’s Committee held  on February 17 the Hai Thuong Lan Ong Festival.

Lê Hữu Trác, also known great physician Hải Thượng Lãn Ông (1720-1791), was born in Yen My district, Hung Yen province, and spent most of his life in Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province.

One of his great contributions to Vietnamese traditional medicine was the summarization of the essence of Vietnamese traditional medicines into voluminous texts, such as ‘Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh’ (The comprehension of Hai Thuong on medicine), which is considered the encyclopedia of Vietnamese Traditional Medicine with thousands of recipes and hundreds of remedies.

The festival featured many worshipping activities for commemorating and honoring Great Physician Lê Hữu Trác such as incense offering ritual and procession at Le Huu Trac tomb, praying and candle lighting ceremonies to pray for peace and good health.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognised Hai Thuong Lan Ong festival as a national intangible cultural heritage on October 2015.
