Exchange meeting with Khmer Buddhist dignitaries in Soc Trang

The Committee for Ethnic Affairs in the southern province of Soc Trang held on March 31 an exchange meeting with Khmer Buddhist leaders and other Khmer elites in the province.  

Attending the meeting included General Secretary of the provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Lâm Văn Mẫn, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trần Văn Lâu, Head of the provincial Commission for Mass mobilization cum Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Dương Sà Kha, representatives of the Association for Buddhist Solidarity, concerning departments and agencies, and over 230 delegates who are Buddhist monks, heads of Khmer Buddhist pagodas and Khmer intellectuals in Soc Trang.

During the event Chairman the provincial People’s Committee Trần Văn Lâu briefed results of socio-economic developments in 2020 and the first three months of 2021 in Soc Trang, and highlighted practical contributions by Khmer Theravada Buddhists in the province, which number about 362,000 with 1,900 monks and 1,300 deacons.

The meeting participants also heard brief reports of the current Covid-19 prevention work in the locality, the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th Legislature of the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure slated for May 23, as well as affairs and tasks of the Buddhist solidarity association and management boards of pagodas of Khmer Theravada Buddhism. 

On occasion of the upcoming the Chol Chnam Thmay Festival 2021 of Khmer people, Chairman Trần Văn Lâu took the chance to extend greetings and warm celebrations of the festival to Khmer monks and lay Buddhists in the province.
