05/03/2019

Since 2016, authorities of Nghe An province’s Dien Chau district has launched a model for enhancing the role of Catholic communities in ensuring public security in the locality.

Up to now, Dien Chau district has expanded the model “peaceful Catholic communities” in six communes of Dien Lien, Dien Quang, Dien Hanh, Dien My, Dien Doai and Dien Ky.

According to reports, over 50 disputes related to intentional injury, land and environmental, etc. in those communes have been successfully mediated. Local people have also provided over 100 valuable pieces of information to the police for investing cases disturbing public order and traffic safety.

In particular, all 373 Catholic families belonging to Phi Loc parish in Village 4 of the district’s Dien Quang commune have signed commitments to implement the model. After that, the village has seen no criminals and social evils.

Before 2014, Village 2 of Ben Den parish in Dien Ky commune had many social vices including gambling and storing self-made guns. Since then, the Fatherland Front of the commune has closely worked with Catholic dignitaries of the parish and successfully encouraged the locals to close gambling and voluntarily hand over guns to the police.
