Deputy PM pays homage to Most Venerable Thích Thiện Duyên

Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình on April 23 paid tribute to Deputy Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha's (VBS) Discernment Council Most Venerable Thích Thiện Duyên who passed away on April 18 in Quang Nam province.  

Accompanying the Deputy PM included Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng and officials of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs.

During the event, Deputy PM Trương Hòa Bình paid his last respects to Deputy Patriarch Most Venerable Thích Thiện Duyên.

Writing on the funeral book, Deputy PM Trương Hòa Bình expressed his deep sorrow, stating that Most Venerable Thích Thiện Duyên was a good example in both Buddhist and social affairs. The Deputy PM stressed that the Most Venerable’s passing was a great loss to the VBS and Buddhist followers both at home and abroad.

Most Venerable Thiện Duyên has served as a Deputy Patriarch of the VBS’s Discernment Council, Member of the Committee for Legislation under the VBS’s Discernment Council , former Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council, former Chairman of the VBS Chapter in Quang Nam, Abbot of Dao Nguyen pagoda located in Tam Ky city.

Deputy Patriarch Thích Thiện Duyên has been conferred with the second and third class Independence Order, the national great solidarity Order and among others.

The Most Venerable died in Dao Nguyen Pagoda located in Quang Nam province’s Tam Ky city on April 18 at the age of 94.
