Deputy PM extends Chol Chnam Thmay wishes to Khmer people in HCMC

Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình has extended best wishes to Khmer Theravada Buddhist dignitaries and followers in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of the Chol Chnam Thmay – the traditional New Year Festival of the Khmer people in the south.

During the visit to Candaransi temple in Ho Chi Minh City, on April 7, Deputy PM said that over the past years, Party and State have always payed special attention to ethnic minorities, including implementing supportive policies, improving the socio-economic situation and life quality of ethnic minority people, and strengthening the bloc of great national unity.

Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình emphasised that, along with people from all over the country, Khmer ethnic people in Ho Chi Minh City have made great efforts to promote national cultural identity and overcome difficulties. They have also made important contributions to the country's development achievements and socio-economic development.

The leader asked the Khmer people and Khmer Theravada Buddhist monks to further strive for the cause of socio-economic development. He believed that leaders of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) will continue directing the effective fulfillment of key goals set during its new tenure, and called on Buddhist monks, nuns and followers to contribute to national construction and defence.

Most Venerable Danh Lung, member of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) executive board, deputy head of the 2nd Central Office of VBS cum Abbot of Candaransi Temple gave thanks for the attention of the Party and State leaders for Khmer compatriots in the traditional New Year Festival of Khmer people.

The Most Venerable expressed his gratitude and thanks to the leaders and city authorities for creating favorable conditions for religious activities of Khmer compatriots at Candaransi Temple.
