Cultural festival & ritual celebrating new corn of Lo Lo ethnic people 2019

The cultural festival including the ritual celebrating the new corn of the ethnic people of Lo Lo in Ha Giang province’s Meo Vac district 2019 took place on July 20.

The cultural event hosted by the district authorities of Meo Vac was joint by Lo Lo groups from Ha Giang’s Dong Van district and Cao Bang province’s Bao Lac district and attracted large numbers of locals and visitors.

The festival this year featured a wide range of activities, including worshipping rites, folk games of the ethnic groups, contests in weaving and making traditional crafts and food made of corn, display of traditional dresses, and art exchanges

Meo Vac district is currently home to 16 ethnic groups and each ethnic group has a its own cultural characteristics. Lo Lo people, though with a small number residing mostly in Xin Cai commune and Meo Vac ward, have unique and long-held cultural traditions. While facing economic difficulties, Lo Lo ethnics have well preserved ancestral customs, including the rain praying ritual and rites for celebrating the new harvest of corn and new house. In addition, Lo Lo people in Meo Vac still wear beautiful dresses of a long-held custom with skilful and artistic decorations on traditional weaving cloths.
