A “Rice ATM’ for providing free rice for poor locals, including Cham Muslims in Ho Chi Minh city amid the Covid-19 pandemic was launched at a ceremony held on April 27.
The “rice ATM” was sponsored by the Saigon Securities Corporation, the Minh Huy Refrigeration Joint Stock Company and the Public Security Newspaper and placed at the headquarters of the People’s Committee of ward 1 in district 8.
The event saw the participation of Colonel Trần Kim Thẩm, Vice Chief Editor of the Public Security Newspaper, Mr. Kim Sô in charge of the city Muslim mosque, Mr. Châu Ly, Chief of the Office under the Representative Committee of the Muslim community in the city, representatives from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, local authorities, sponsors and Cham Islamic community in district 8.
Before taking rice from the “rice ATM”, local residents are asked to wash their hands and keep a minimum distance of two meters from others.
The ward 1 has an area of 0.4 km2 and a population of 26,085 people, including over 1,000 Cham people with 22 poor households with 55 people and 51 near-poor households with 225 people./.
