07/24/2019

A ceremony was held in the central province of Ha Tinh on July 22 to mark the 51st anniversary of the Dong Loc Victory (July 24, 1968-2019).

The event was attended by President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Trần Thanh Mẫn; and Vice Chairman of National Assembly Uông Chu Lưu.

During the war against American imperialism, Dong Loc T-junction held a very important position on the legendary Truong Son route. Thousands of locals, officials and soldiers were brave to sacrifice themselves to ensure the safe operation of the transport route linking to the southern front. Notably, ten young female volunteers, aged from 17 to 24, were killed whilst they trying to level bomb craters to reopen the intersection on July 24.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee Hoàng Trung Dũng emphasised that the meaning and profound lessons of Dong Loc victory have remained.

Upholding the cultural and revolutionary tradition, Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee and people have continued to overcome all difficulties to maintain social stability and develop the economy with high growth rates, he added.

At the ceremony, the VFF President Trần Thanh Mẫn and other delegates presented five social houses to five policy beneficiaries living in difficult circumstances in Can Loc and Thach Ha districts, along with 18 gifts to Armed Forces Heroes and relatives of the ten young female volunteers.

The ceremony was followed by a unique art programme entitled ‘Dong Loc - Immortal flowers’, featuring songs and dances praising the heroic land and honouring the sacrifices of soldiers and the ten young volunteers.
